our ceremony

For our group ceremony, we created the legend of The Swine as an amalgamation of ceremonies from our personal lives. The Swine is a villainous character, appearing to people on their birthdays with the intent of stealing their soul if they have not completed the Resolution he set for them a year prior. He exists as a character of folklore, hypothetically used by parents as a tactic to get their children to behave during the year. We mixed experiences of christian ceremonies, annual ceremonies and Krampus to create this narrative. Our project was performed as a short demonstration of how The Swine would come into the homes of children, locking their souls away in a small coffin. The outfit was made using felt, tape, glue and various personal objects brought to symbolise our own ceremonies. If we had more time, the story and performance would’ve been more cohesive.
